Recent legislation dictates that drivers under 20 must have zero alcohol in their bodies.
I think generally new drivers will be pretty good at observing this new rule. They have been educated into the system. Those who will find it hard are those who have been driving a couple of years and allowed to have a little alcohol and suddenly are told they can’t have any.
This is an offence that is targeted young people, and it’s a zero tolerance offence. If you have alcohol in your system, you’re going to get a ticket. It’s not a criminal charge, but the repercussion could ultimately affect one’s ability to drive. The result of being charged with the offence could be a fine or loss of license or both. If a young person needs a car to drive to work or school, loss of license can be a serious consequence.
